Melanocytes are cells located in the deepest layer of the epidermis which during the pathologic process involving vitiligo, are made inactive leading to their death.

As the melanocytes cells are those which produce melanin, their absence is revealed by hypopigmentation in the affected areas.

In the case of EMKTPSKILL, the melanocytes extracted from the epidermis are placed in co-culture with keratinocytes which are also extracted from the epidermic layer to encourage complete healing: the melanocytes have the task of re-pigmenting the hypopigmented areas and the keratinocytes carry out a regenerating action of the tissues previously submitted to dermoabrasion.
